Selecting paintings for your portfolio
A painting portfolio is easier to review when the works belong together. Ten to fifteen paintings is often enough if the group is coherent. Mixing unrelated one-offs forces the reviewer to invent a practice for you.
Choose works you can caption honestly: title, year, medium, and dimensions. If a painting exists in more than one state, send the version you would actually exhibit.
Image quality and detail views
Most painting pages need one clear full-work image. Edge-to-edge colour, even light, and a crop that does not invent a composition the painting does not have.
A detail view is useful when surface, weave, or a specific passage is part of how the work is understood. It is not useful as decoration. This sample does not treat close-ups as a required second page for every painting.
Captions that stay consistent
Keep caption fields in the same order on every page: title, year, medium, dimensions. Reviewers scan; they do not want to hunt for centimetres on one page and inches on the next.
