This example is for an emerging photographer with a recent degree and limited exhibition history:

Marco Ferreira is a photographer based in Lisbon working primarily with medium format film. He completed his studies at the Escola Superior de Arte e Design in 2025. His work explores the relationship between urban space and collective memory, and has been shown in graduate exhibitions and open calls in Portugal and Spain. He is a current member of the Boa-Boca collective, Lisbon.

What works here: honest about career stage. The collective membership adds professional context without overstating the exhibition history. Practice description is specific: 'urban space and collective memory' is more precise than 'street photography.'

Photographer biographies in portfolio PDFs follow the same structure as other visual artist biographies, with one addition: be specific about your photographic practice. 'Photographer' is a broad term: 'documentary photographer working with analogue processes' tells a curator something immediately.

What to include:

• Name, specific photographic practice, location
• Education or training
• Key exhibitions, publications or collections
• Residencies if relevant
• Optional: one sentence on current direction

What to avoid: listing every publication or exhibition, vague descriptions like 'award-winning photographer' without naming the award, first person voice.
